THE FEEL

It’s telling that the Elsberry’s town website refers to their city leaders by their first names—Elsberry has that “small town feel” where everybody knows your name. The downtown is filled with small shops and offices in both historic and newer buildings, all within site of the large American flag that shows the town’s patriotism.

HISTORY

In 1879 the Clarksville & Western Railroad Company reached the farm of Robert T. Elsberry in Lincoln County. A depot was built later that year, and Mr. Elsberry began his ambitious plans for a town that would carry his name. Soon several businesses moved to the area, including a harness shop, a grist mill, a newspaper, grain elevators, and a bank. Though the businesses have changed to more modern ones, Elsberry still retains that old rail-town feel.

ACCESSIBILITY

Elsberry lies along scenic route 79, which connects it with interstate 70 and also has county road access to interstate 61.

CULTURE

Small town values, guided growth, preservation of historical, cultural, and natural heritage are just a few of the core principles that make the City of Elsberry a wonderful place to call home.

ENTERTAINMENT

Whether it is a local farmer's market or main street shops, Elsberry shops local to sustain their community and support their local merchants.

SCHOOLS

Elsberry is served by the Elsberry R-2 school district, which has an elementary, middle, and high school.
